EU Designates Microsoft and Amazon as ’Critical’ Tech Suppliers Amid Cloud Probe
The European Union has labeled Microsoft and Amazon as 'critical' providers of third-party ICT services to the financial sector, citing their systemic importance. The designation coincides with a European Commission investigation into whether the tech giants should be classified as 'gatekeepers' of the cloud computing industry.
The MOVE falls under the Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA), which mandates financial institutions to bolster defenses against ICT disruptions like cyberattacks. Other firms receiving the critical designation include Oracle, IBM, and Bloomberg.
